Stolen (Women of the Otherworld, #2) by Kelley Armstrong

Stolen (Women of the Otherworld, #2)Stolen by Kelley Armstrong

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It was in Bitten, Kelley Armstrong's debut novel, that thirty-year-old Elena Michaels came to terms with her feral appetites and claimed the proud identity of a beautiful, successful woman and the only living female werewolf.
In Stolen, on a mission for her own elite pack, she is lured into the net of ruthless Internet billionaire Tyrone Winsloe, who has funded a bogus scientific investigation of the "other races" and their supernatural powers. Kidnapped and studied in his underground lab deep in the Maine woods, these paranormals - witches, vampires, shamans, werewolves - are then released and hunted to the death in a real-world video game. But when Winsloe captures Elena, he finally meets his match.

I enjoyed this second book in the Women of the Otherworld series better than the first one. It was great to see Elena and Clay working together and I loved meeting the new characters that I know will be the focus of future books in the series. I hope that we see more of Elena and Clay in future books as well. Looking forward to more in this series.

A Taste of the Nightlife (A Vampire Chef Mystery, #1) by Sarah Zettel

A Taste of the Nightlife (A Vampire Chef Mystery, #1)A Taste of the Nightlife by Sarah Zettel

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Charlotte Caine isn't called "the Vampire Chef" because she's a member of New York's undead community-she just cooks for them. Her restaurant, Nightlife, is poised to take the top slot in the world of "haute noir" cuisine.

But when a drunk customer causes a scene, a glowing review from the city's top food critic doesn't seem likely-especially when that customer winds up dead on Nightlife's doorstep. Now, with her brother under suspicion for the murder, Charlotte has to re-open her restaurant and clear her brother's name-before they both become dinner.

This was an interesting start to what I think will be a good new series.

The start of the book was a bit choppy. The world building could have been stronger and the character development was a little 1 dimensional, but the mystery itself and the premise for the book was a good one. The story started coming together a bit by mid way through the book and I am looking forward to reading the next in the series to see where the author goes.

Dark Nights, Dark Dreams (Sisterhood of the Sight, #1) by Savannah Russe

Dark Nights, Dark Dreams (Sisterhood of the Sight, #1)Dark Nights, Dark Dreams by Savannah Russe

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

~~~
Introducing the sisterHOOD of the sight
The first in an all-new series featuring sexy paranormal romance, government secrets, and female special-ops with very special talents.
Government agent Susan Chase always kept her psychic abilities a secret. Now her secret is out and the C.I.A. needs her help. A highly classified all- female team of paranormal agents, Susan and her squad are now entrusted with the government's most unusual and dangerous assignments.
~~~

I really enjoyed this book. Look forward to more in the series so we can learn more about the other women in the group.

This book is a lot like Russe's Darkwing Chronicles, in that it deals with modern day terrorism and plots. I loved the supernatural twist, especially since it was more about psychic phenomena rather than the typical vampires.

The storyline was a bit odd and really was a little erratic, I guess, but it did come together and sets us up for more of a series about the AngelWay group and their future adventures. Looking forward to reading more about them.

Merry Meet (Circle of Three, 2) by Isobel Bird

Circle of Three #2: Merry Meet (Circle of Three, 2) Circle of Three #2: Merry Meet by Isobel Bird

Joined together hand in hand our circle gathers round, to work our magic, weave the web, and dance on sacred ground. By the goddess we are called, witch to witch and friend to friend, to merry meet, and merry part, and merry meet again.

A book of spells brought Kate, Cooper, and Annie together. The three are coompelled to learn more, and the door is opened with the stirring ritual of the Vernal Equinox.

Once again I enjoyed the introduction to Wicca with this book, but the personal problems struggles with the main character did not interest me. I have to keep reminding myself that the main character is a 15 year old girl, which excuses her for some of her more selfish, self-centered behavior.

I will probably read a couple more in the series just to see how it goes. I am also going to encourage my 15 year old dd to read the first couple books as they do offer a nice introduction into what Wicca is and she has recently asked questions about Wicca.

I am kind of on the fence with this book. While I enjoyed the Wicca aspect of the book and the girl's introduction to magic, I was a little put off by all of the high school drama. Of course the book is a teen book written about a group of 10th grade girls who stumble across a book of spells and decide to experiment with magic. There is a lot of teen drama in the book -- cliques, friends, boys, grades, etc. We all remember those days. lol Having a 15 year old daughter made it a little more interesting to read as I could see a lot of what was in the book in things she talks about from school.

Anyway the book was okay and I intend to read the next in the series before I decide if I want to continue with the series or not.
