I really enjoyed this book once I got into it. The beginning was a little rough. We seem to be introduced to the main character, Allie, in the middle of her character development. She finally comes together further into the book as we learn more about her history but it made for a little confusion early on. I kept feeling like I had missed reading a previous book that should have told us more about her. (The author also gives her an annoying habit of saying 'Poop' that is a huge turn off). But as the story unfolds it got much more interesting to the point that I could not put it down and sat up well into the night to finish it. I look forward to more books by this author.

ETA-- 3/08 and I now realize why as this is technically #2 in the series. LOL Have the rest on MT. TBR.


ETA-- 6/20/14 -- I decided to reread this as I recently read the first book in the series and to be honest I did not really remember reading this one years ago. I guess that I have a greater appreciation for this type of book because I probably would have rated it 4 stars this time around.

Then, when she and Roxy attend a local GothFaire, Joy meets Raphael Griffin St. John, head of security, and she becomes even more bewildered because the dark and dangerous Raphael seems too close to her dreams for comfort.

Totally enjoyed this quirky romance. I forget how much I enjoy sappy romances until I start reading them. Seems that I don't really read them as much as I probably should.

Loved Joy's personality and her humor. Enjoyed the story line and look forward to reading more about the Dark Ones and their Beloved.

This book was okay. I have already read Katie MacAlister's "Bring Out Your Dead" in another anthology. While I have not read any of her other Dark Ones books I did find the story enjoyable and look forward to seeing some of the characters again.

Jennifer Ashley's "Viva Las Vampires" was probably my favorite read, although I think that it went a little heavy on the 'master' aspect. Overall the story was interesting and I feel like it could become a full novel with all of the different characters.

Minda Webber's "Lucy and the Crypt Casanova" was just too silly for me. It was not a very cohesively written story and Lucy's comments and behavior was just too ridiculous to even been funny. Definitely my least favorite story in the book.

Decided to read this since Valentine's Day was around the corner. I enjoyed all of the stories but my favorite had to be 'Every Part of You' by Lisa Cach. Not a typical zombie story but an interesting one nonetheless. How can you not love a zombie who craves sweets and not brains? lol

I liked 'Zombiewood Confidential' by Marianne Mancusi simply because it was more of a typical zombie story with the brain eating zombies of horror novels as opposed to the lovestruck zombies in the other stories. The story itself was a bit cheesy, but it is Valentine's Day after all.

Though I have not yet read any of Katie MacAlister's 'Dark Ones' books, (I do have them on my TBR mountain though) I still enjoyed 'Bring Out Your Dead'. I look forward to reading more about the characters that I met briefly in this story.

'Gentlemen Prefer Voodoo' by Angie Fox was a sappy love story, but perfect for a Valentine's Day read.

This was a fun read!

When Amy Stewart's teenage daughter challenges her to add some fun to her rather structured life by trying out a new VR game called Buckling Swashes, Amy inadvertently gets caught up in a struggle between the games creator and a disgruntled ex-employee. Stuck in the game with only a few other human players Amy must find her inner pirate and figure out how to get herself out of the game. What she didn't count on was falling for Black Corbin, the game's creator. As they join forces to figure out which character is actually Paul, the disgruntled employee, they also have to figure out a way to save the VR world that they are trapped in.
