Survival (Remnants #13) by KA Applegate

From the Publisher
Tate is fighting for her life. Honey, Duncan and Charlie are mysteriously transforming into slime creatures and they are desperate to "recycle" all of the living cells -- into their own bodies. But Tate has something Honey wants even more than cells. She'll manage to save her life by forging a strange alliance with these creatures. Tate is haunted by a strange reoccurring dream of the renewed Earth. Do the dreams mean Tate can use the powerful ship to undo the devastation caused by the Rock?

My Opinion
In this book we follow Tate as she is left alone on Mother when Yago and the Trioke take over and leave the other Remnants stranded on a destroyed Earth. Very interesting chapter and I can not wait to see how it all ends in the last book.

From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris

From Dead to Worse (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Book 8) From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris

From the Publisher
After the natural disaster of Hurricane Katrina and the man-made explosion at the vampire summit, everyone —-- human and otherwise -- is stressed, including Louisiana cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse, who is trying to cope with the fact that her boyfriend Quinn has gone missing.

It's clear that things are changing, whether the weres and vamps of her corner of Louisiana like it or not. And Sookie -- Friend to the Pack and blood-bonded to Eric Northman, leader of the local vampire community -- is caught up in the changes.

In the ensuing battles, Sookie faces danger, death, and once more, betrayal by someone she loves. And when the fur has finished flying and the cold blood finished flowing, her world will be forever altered.

My review

rating: 3 of 5 stars
This latest book in the Sookie Stackhouse series was not nearly as good as the last one, but it was okay. Lots of stuff going on, a Were war, a Vamp takeover, new roomates, new family members, but no one big storyline. Just lots of little bits and pieces that came together to make an interesting chapter in Sookie's life. But the end left everything wide open for the next novel, that I am sure will be too long coming, for me. Good read, but not great!

Dream Storm (Remnants, Book 11) by K.A. Applegate

Synopsis
Be careful what you wish for. After what seemed like a lifetime of waiting, the Remnants are back on Earth---for better or worse. Yago has taken control of Mother and stranded the Remnants along with their ruthless enemies the Riders and Meanies to keep them company. Meanwhile, Jobs discovers that Earth has some ‘remnants’ of its own humans who don’t know any world other than the new Earth. Will the survivors of the Rock help the remaining Remnants? Or does a new enemy lurk on the horizon?

My Opinion
Yet another great chapter in the life of the Remnants. The Remnants have been abandoned by Yago on a hostile and sterile Earth. With no food or water and little hope of survival they explore their new world. When Edward discovers humans descending underground the Remnants decide to follow to get away from a very strange Dream Storm. They soon discover that life has indeed survived on Earth over the last 500 years. But exactly what kind of life and can they learn to survive as well?

Looking forward to the next chapter!!

Lost and Found (Remnants, Book 10) by Katherine Applegate

From the Publisher
It’s been 90 days since the Remnants broke the Big Compromise, turning Mother from her course. Now they’ve arrived at the place they called home...500 years ago. But a lot can change in five centuries. Earth has been transformed into a wasteland of ash and debris. And if that isn’t bad enough, while the rest of the Remnants pull together to survive, Yago is slowly pulling away --- concocting a plan to rise to power. With only 13 Remnants remaining, failure could mean the end of the human race...

My Opinion
So the Remnants have decided to return to Earth. When they finally make it there and discover that the planet was damaged too badly to have allowed life to continue they are disappointed. But Jobs won't give up hope.

Another good chapter in the life of the Remnants and I am looking forward to reading the finale as the Remnants return to a very different planet Earth.

Ghost of a Chance (Karma Marx: Book 1) by Kate Marsh

From the Publisher
There are other worlds with mysteries to solve.

Worlds where not all of the suspects are technically alive.

That's when Karma kicks in.

Karma Marx exorcises haunted houses, sending troublesome poltergeists and other spirits to the ever after. But one assignment traps Karma, her foster child, her sleazy soon-to-be-ex husband, Spider, and his crooked partner under one roof. And when Spider turns up dead, it's a locked house mystery, and Karma's determined to reveal the truth, even if it means tackling all of the mansion's inhabitants-mortal and otherwise...

My Opinion
This was a fun paranormal cozy mystery. I enjoyed the characters, including the many 'Otherworldly' characters. The main character was interesting. The storyline was good and the 'whodunit' came as a surprise to me. So well worth the read and looking forward to the next when it comes out.

An Ice Cold Grave (Harper Connelly Mysteries, Book 3) by Charlaine Harris

Synopsis
Hired to find a boy gene missing in Doraville, North Carolina, Harper Connelly and her brother Tolliver head there-only to discover that the boy was only one of several who had disappeared over the previous five years. All of them teenagers. All unlikely runaways.

All calling for Harper.

Harper soon finds them-eight victims, buried in the half-frozen ground, all come to an unspeakable end. Afterwards, what she most wants to do is collect her fee and get out of town ahead of the media storm that's soon to descend. But when she's attacked and prevented from leaving, she reluctantly becomes a part of the investigation as she learns more than she cares to about the dark mysteries and long-hidden secrets of Doraville-knowledge that makes her the next person likely to rest in an ice-cold grave.

My Opinion
This was probably my favorite of the Harper Connelly books so far. It is quite a bit darker than her previous books in the series but I enjoyed it more.

Harper and Tolliver are hired by the Police Department in Doraville to help find the bodies of 6 teenage boys who have gone missing over a the last 5 years. In doing so she and Tolliver are thrown into the middle of a horrific crime.

I was thrilled by the changing relationship between Harper and Tolliver and enjoyed the storyline.

Looking forward to more in this series.

Grave Surprise (Harper Connelly Mysteries, Book 2) by Charlaine Harris

Book Description:
While in Memphis, psychic Harper Connelly senses-and finds-two bodies in a grave. One of a man centuries-dead. The other, a girl, recently deceased. Harper's investigation yields another surprise: the next morning, a third body is found-in the very same grave.

My Oinion
Excellent book. I am really enjoying this series and look forward to reading the next right away.

When Harper arrives at a cemetery for a demonstration of her abilities to a college class, everyone is shocked when she discovers the body of an 11 year old girl whom she had been hired to find a year earlier when she disappeared. This leads to suspicion from the police and an investigation which keeps Harper and Tolliver in town.

I have to say that I really enjoyed the story as well as getting to know Harper and Tolliver better. I did not figure out who did it until the very end and while the ending was a bit rushed, it was still en excellent read.
